Regular appointments
These may be booked under the following guidelines:

Surgeries are usually done on Tues. and Friday mornings. Please plan to drop off your pet at 7:30 that morning. (Unless prior arrangements are made for a different time.) Unless instructed differently, the pet gets fed, then the food is taken away and no more food access is given after 10:00 pm the night before the surgery. The first person up in the morning takes the water away, closes the toilet lids, elevates plants that might have water in dishes, covers the fish bowl, etc. It is important that the pet have an empty stomach and has not filled up with water that morning.

Regular appointments can be scheduled Mondays (all day), Tues and Friday afternoons, and Wed afternoon and evening. If the surgery schedule is open, we may be able to see your pet on Tues. or Friday morning.

Urgent care appointments
As soon as you identify the need, please call us so we can schedule this as soon as it will fit into both your and our schedules. This is often the appointment needed when an owner comes home and discovers a problem that they do not want to wait until the next business day to address.

Emergency appointments
Emergencies can happen any time. Please call us as soon as you identify a problem, so we can be ready to receive your pet. Occasionally, we may not have appropriate staff to handle your pet’s emergency, and we will direct you to a facility better able to handle the situation. For this reason, it is important that you call before you arrive. In the event the emergency is after hours, please call the hospital and let the phone ring until you get a person or a message machine (the phone at the clinic will usually be set to ring over to Dr. McCarty’s house, but you have to let it ring 10 times). If you get a message, please follow the directions. Please leave your name and number on the machine. Also, when using the pager, be sure to put in a number at which you can be reached, and make sure the line will be available. I cannot help you when the number that comes over my pager is 1155 (which is my pager number).

Work-Ins are seen when we get a break in the schedule. These may be interrupted appointments when a patient arrives who has a scheduled appointment. We will try to get you seen as soon as possible, but be prepared to wait as scheduled appointments do take precedence.

Walk-ins are welcome, but you may have to wait quite a while especially on a surgery morning. We will see you as soon as possible without interrupting the schedule flow we are already committed to. Alternatively, you may be offered the choice to leave your pet with us, to be seen at our convenience.
